Many sales teams suffer from the 80/20 rule, the situation where 80% of your teams’ sales are generated by only 20% of your sales team. There are of course variations to this ratio, sometimes it is 75/25, 60/40 or even 90/10, but the point the ratio demonstrates is that the vast majority of sales people, produce a fraction of what the top performing sales people produce, and produce regularly.

So why are some sales people able to perform at a higher level consistently when other individuals seem to struggle?

A study of many successful high performing sales professionals showed that these individuals have a number of key things in common, they possess a wide range of skills and qualities. Skills which they have mastered and developed to suit their individual style. These skills are not highly secretive or sophisticated sales techniques, far from it. They are a combination of basic fundamental skills performed consistently and performed consistently well.

These individuals not only display excellent sales skills but adopt flexible behaviour, have the ability to communicate outstandingly and possess brilliant customer service skills.
